The Foster House was built by Andrew Foster in 1864.  Initially Foster operated a candy and ice cream store here along with his tailor shop.  The second floor held a public hall.  Foster later enlarged this building on the south side of South Main Street into a hotel and restaurant, moving his other businesses across the street.
