How do I Get a Library Card?:
To
get a Sayville Library card you
will need two (2) forms of
identification with one a photo
ID. The following is a list of
acceptable forms of ID:
- Current drivers license, with new address written on the back, if not updated
- Current Town of Islip ID card.
- A utility bill within 30 days.
- Copy of the lease agreement, mortgage or tax bill showing residence within the Sayville School District boundaries
- Current School ID for students
- Formal communication from Social Services
- For students in college, valid college ID is acceptable
To receive
a Child or Teen
card, the parent or guardian
must be present to sign the
registration card for anyone
under 18. DVDs may be checked
out on these cards if permission
is given by the parent/guardian
signing the back of the
registration card. With parental
permission, children and teens
will be able to access the
Internet from the library.
Please ask for an Internet
permission form.
Library cards expire every three
(3) years and at that time a
valid driver’s license or a
piece of mail, stamped within
the last 30 days, are acceptable
forms of identification.
Business Card:
Business owners may apply
for a library card by
bringing in a business card
with the business name,
owner name and address of
the business. Cards are not
distributed to employees or
family members. This card
may only be used in the
Sayville Library as it will
be a “Local Use Only” card.
Educators Card:
Teachers must produce a
school ID card or a paystub
within the last 30 days.
This card may only be used
in the Sayville Library as
it will be a “Local Use
Only” card.

Any Fire Island resident or
seasonal visitor who has a
Sayville Post Office Box is
eligible for a library card from
Patchogue-Medford Library only.
Fire Island is in the Town of
Brookhaven and Patchogue is the
Central Library. This card may
only be used at the
Patchogue-Medford library.
Checking out Materials:
You must have your library card
or Drivers license in order to
check out items from the
library.
Placing Holds (Reserves):
You may place a hold-

from home by accessing the
Online Catalog from the
library’s webpage

calling and speaking to a
librarian
-
stopping by the library and
placing a hold at one of our
convenient online catalog
stations
-
stopping at a Service Desk.

to locate the item you want, you
may also email the library at

Renewing Materials:
Items may be renewed twice if
there are no other holds
(reserves) on the titles. New
items may be renewed once. You
may renew your items by calling
the library and speaking
to a Circulation Clerk or from
the Library’s webpage through
“View Your Patron Record”. Items
overdue will not renew on line.
You will then need to contact
the library or return the item.
Items from another library may
be renewed on line depending on
the loaning library’s rules.

Direct Access:
The Sayville Library is a member
of the Suffolk Cooperative
Library System (SCLS) and as
such follows the SCLS Resource
Sharing Code as established by
SCLS and it member libraries.
Any borrower possessing a valid
full service borrower’s card, in
good standing, issued by any
member library of SCLS may
utilize the resources of the
Sayville Library and borrow
items through Direct Access,
which means from within a
library. The following
restrictions apply to direct
access loans:
a.
Materials that do not circulate
to local residents
b. All New items such as DVD’s,
Books, CD’s, Audio Books and
Quick Flicks
c. Adult Test collection,
Educators’ collection,
Children’s Holiday collection in
season
Interlibrary Loans:
Through interlibrary loan you
may request items from other
Suffolk County libraries or an
out-of-area library to be sent
to Sayville Library for
pick-up. Some materials such as
new items or the only copy
available may not be loanable.

Lost Library Card
Replacement fee: $1.50
Totes to go:
Sayville library bags may be
borrowed along with your other
items. It checks out for 3 weeks
and is renewable two times. If
you should choose not to return
the bag, the replacement cost is
$2.00.
24/7 Mailboxes:
For people on the go we offer an
option to pick up your items
without coming into the library
or when the library is closed.
The items will be left in a
mailbox on the south side of the
building. Call the library and
ask a Circulation Clerk to check
out your items and place them
inside one of the mailboxes. We
will then program the mailbox
for you with a four digit code.
You will have 24 hours to pick
up your item.If you have not
picked it up within the 24
hours; it will come inside and
be placed on the hold shelf.

Paying your fines on line:
The Sayville Library is pleased
to offer the option to pay
library fees online with our
E-Commerce service. When you
owe the library $10.00 or more,
you will see the option to pay
online from “View Your Patron
Record” accessible from home or
in the Library at a computer
stations. Payment is made via a
secure connection using any Visa
or MasterCard credit or debit
card. Items must be returned or
reported lost or damaged to use
this service.
How do I apply for a Job?:
Applications are available in
the library for various titles.
Full time positions are filled
from a Suffolk County Civil
Service List. Part-time
positions for librarians, clerks
and pages do not require filling
from a list.
Donations of Items:
Donations are accepted within
the following guidelines:
a. The
items must be 5 years or younger
b. In good condition
c. No text books, National
Geographic magazines or test
booklets
d. Items must not be marked up
or written in
