
George Alexander Morrison
George Alexander Morrison was born October 2, 1867 in Greenpoint
(Brooklyn), NY, of Irish parents. He served in the National Guard.
He married Jessie Rae Dickson on November 1, 1893 in Brooklyn and they had two
children, Jeanett Edina and George Elliott. George Alexander Morrison was
a contractor and builder of houses and apartments in Brooklyn. He was a
New York City Alderman and was an organizer and President of the Greenpoint
National Bank. After summering in Sayville for many years, in February
1913 Morrison bought the Leander Powell Estate which extended from Elm Street to
the Great South Bay on Handsome Avenue and moved his family there permanently.
George A. Morrison developed, built and was the original owner of the Cedarshore--Casino,
Hotel and Cottages. In Sayville, Morrison was an organizer and Chairman of
the Community Trust Company and was active in the Sayville Chamber of Commerce.
He died on January 16, 1931 and is buried in St. Ann's Cemetery.
