Charles Huntoon originally came to Sayville as manager of the Lewis Oyster Company, which had its plant at the foot of Foster Avenue. He served as Sayville's Postmaster from 1922-1934.  His wife Bertha Huntoon was a on Sayville Library's board of trustees for 43 years.  Charles's daughter, Elinor H. Haff, was director of Sayville Library for 33 years.
