Create your own lava lamp with common household materials. Practice scientific processes of planning, observation, and explore the chemical reaction between vinegar and baking soda, creating a variety of colors. These lava lamps could be made in a jar and stored away to reuse time and time again! See below for the suggested materials list. All registrants will be emailed a link to view recordings at the date and time of the program. 

Suggested Materials

  • Jar or empty plastic bottle
  • 1 cup of oil
  • 1⁄4 cup vinegar
  • 1 tsp baking soda or 1 Alka Seltzer tab 
  • 1 tsp water
  • Food coloring
  • Glitter (optional)
